Do you hear what I hear?

My mum went out to check the chickens wearing her tall boots and a pair of shorts, a summer shirt and her winter jacket. She says it's only -13 so it's not like it's cold.

I think she's crazy. She doesn't even have fur!

I've been thinking a lot this weekend while my mama's been working on report cards. I thought about cookies. I  thought about cats. And I thought about all the treats mum has hidden in the spare room. Who is Santa Paws anyhow?

Horses & Anniversaries

Sneaking up on a horse is quiet business. You must keep your nose down and your mouth closed...

It helps if you keep your hind legs kind of stiff when you walk. If the horse sees you, he'll know you mean business.

When you get next to the horse, bark REALLY loudly!

I personally think this horse is deaf. No one could ignore a ferocious dog like me for very long otherwise!

In other news, it's been one year since I came to live at my mom's house. It was a year ago today that I was dropped off on her front steps in my kennel. Wow. A lot has changed since then! I can sit, lie down, shake, high five and heel! I don't pee on furniture any more, I'm not scared of kennels or crates, and I don't chew up the house as much as I used to (with the exception of TimTams. Mmm.)

Then!
Now!

Mom says I am the best early Christmas present she's ever gotten! :)

On the Road Again!

I am a travelling dog. I like going on adventures. I just do. There's nothing like the feel of a comfy blanket and a window to look out of.

Today we went to Norway House because my mama's cousin got off the plane there. She was supposed to get off the plane in Cross, but it couldn't land, so we made the drive to pick her up.

It's been a long time since we've had a cable ferry in Cross. I like cable ferries. They are fun. On the way into Norway House it was just us on the ferry. On the way back there was two regular trucks and one big tanker truck. The tanker truck was WHITE. I am scared of white trucks so I barked at it to scare it off. My mom about jumped through the roof when I barked. It was kind of funny, though I'm glad she didn't drive into the lake. There's a lot of ice in there!

This is me, sitting in the backseat of the cousin's van. She calls me her nephew. Before my mama had a vehicle she used to show up and take me on rides in her van because I love rides so much. I love her. She's very nice. She also makes me homemade dog cookies for Christmas. Last year Richard tried to eat my banana flavoured cookies, but my mama didn't let him.

This week we're going to Thompson, but I think I might stay behind so mom can get shopping done. All I can say is that I hope she brings good treats!

Sunny is off leash!

I have a yard! Zooooooooooooooooooooom! I can run run run. There are so many things to pee on. There are so many things to smell. I can't decide where to go first! My yard is huge!

My mom introduced me around the yard today. She stayed outside with me and played. Run!!! I love to run!!!

I thought mom was nuts, "introducing me to the yard", but when she let me out all by myself, I wasn't sure what to do. Was I allowed to go past the steps? I stood by the steps for a long time til she told me to 'okay...go!' and I went!!!

I ran and came back straight away.

Mom was right. Fences are AWESOME.

Cats Rule and Dogs Drool!

Hi. My name is Mew, and I have temporarily taken over this blog because Sunny the Dog is too busy sleeping to do his promised blog on the things he's thankful for. Just like a dog... sign up for the blog and leave all the work for the cats.

I like Sunny, but he's too exuberant. It's a good thing he has me to keep him in line. His spelling needs work, but there're limits to my favour-doing deeds. Here's his list:

My Thankful List - By Sunny MacCanine

1. Cats. I am thankful for cats. (I hope that gets them off my back)
2. Blankets
3. Dog Food. People food. Heck, all food! Have YOU fed a dog today?
4. Elecktrik blankets! These are awesome :D
5. My mama. She's nice to me and to the cats.
6. Chickun! OMG I LOVE CHICKUN! It was delicious! And I had this stuff called GRAYVEE, too. *Slurp*!
7. I love love love my St. Bernard toy. Makes a good pillow.
8. Fences. I still don't understand what this is, but my mama says I'll love it.

What are YOU thankful for?

Dogs aren't terribly creative, are they? At least this one is sincere. *sigh*

Play!

My friend Casey came to visit today. We were mostly blurry the whole time.

Hhheh-hh-hheh-hhhuh. Phew! Being a dog is tiring!
When friends come over it is tiring, but it's a good tired. Play, play, play!

What did you do today? Tomorrow is Thanksgiving! Wait til you see what I am thankful for!

Tonight I tried out this thing called an electric blanket. It is so wonderful I can barely keep my eyes open.

See? Eyes. Barely. Open.

Sleeping is good. I like to sleep. Sleep, sleep, sleep... zzzzZZZzzzz...

Mama means well...

She took me from *this*...
Mama means well, but she embarrasses me sometimes. She bought a professional set of clippers, as well as two extra blades of different lengths. She did an awesome job on my torso, but she cut my ears and face way too short. She clipped off all my curls!!! I love having her play with my ears so I didn't notice til it was too late. *sigh*

She scissor cut my legs. That wasn't so bad. Actually the whole thing wasn't so bad... it's better than being brushed.

Next, a bath. *double sigh*

...to *this*...
Baths are exhausting. Must sleep.

The one good thing about a furcut is that I dry off faster!

...and this!

I guess it's not so bad. She went crazy on my poor ears but my legs are still fluffy. We had company this afternoon. Some kids came over to help my mom in the chicken coop.

No one made fun of me. One girl even told me she liked my furcut.

See? I still look okay. Still gots de fluffehs!

I tried to get them to share their ice creams, but no matter how cute I looked, they didn't share.

Mama shared hers. She loves me.

My Favourite Toys...

My mom says this picture reminds her of Sophie and Robin. She's giggling.

I stole the turtle from my mom and the puppy from Ladybug. My other favourite toy is a cat stuffie I liberated from Mew. I also really like a rubber chicken I got from my auntie, Sandra.

Toys are awesome. What are your favourite toys?

Horses & Car Rides

My mom wasn't feeling very good tonight so we went for a ride. The sunset was awesome.

We got to see horses. They were eating by the lake.

We went for a drive last night, too. Last night the horses were by the ball diamond. They like to eat grass. I like to bark at them. I mean, who can resist saying, "Horses, horses! Look at the horses! Horses!"?

I sure can't.

My mom says that Ladybug and Mew are her cuteness cats. She calls them fuzzibutts. Heck, she calls me a fuzzibutt!

...and she calls me her cuteness dog. I can't argue with that!

Time for sleeping.

Sweet dreams! May all the cats in your dreams want to play!

Chicken Visitation

Casey came over to meet the chickens. She liked them so much she tried to make her nose fit between the wires. She's small, but she's not that small.

I was ready to lend a helping paw.

Then things got REALLY busy when my Husky/Shepherd girlfriend showed up. She likes to wrestle.

Two little girls came to visit, too. They were nice. One of the little girls brought her mom along.

A little boy came to visit, too. His mom came looking for him. He wanders away from home so he can play with chickens.

He loves the chickens. His mom told my mom that his auntie teased him about the chickens being in the nuggets he was eating. He was so sad he cried.

The girls tried some fresh peas and fed the pods to the chickens. I was jealous, a little bit. I love peas.

I made sure I sniffed the girls 'til they giggled.

It was a good day.

Sunny Goes to the Doctor

Today was all about me, Sunny, the dog. My mom took me to Thompson, Manitoba to go see my doctor. I love my doctor. He has saved my life at least twice -- once before I came to live with my mom (I got hit by a vehicle) and once back in March when I chewed something that made a yucky abscess in my throat.

This is a picture of me driving down my street wearing my seat belt.

This is a picture of me at Canadian Tire. We went there before we went to see my doctor. They don't usually let dogs in, so at first I stayed in the truck with a friend. After the second set of seat covers didn't fit, my mom got ticked off and refused to have me stay in the vehicle for her THIRD trip into the store. Mom smiled a lot and tried to sound polite as we walked in and I did my job and looked cute.

I love my doctor. I weigh 15.2 kg and am in excellent health. My teeth are great and my lungs clear. My temperature was normal.

(Enough said about that temperature! Ew!)

I had my rabies shot. I didn't even feel it because mama tickled my ears. I don't have to have another shot 'til 2014! YAY!

This is me asking my doctor, "You got treats in that pocket?"

After the vet we went to Walmart to get  dirt for Ladybug and Mew. Then we went through the drive-through at A&W. I got to have TWO hamburger patties... a Papa burger takes me approximately 1 minute to eat. Maybe less time.

MMm-mmm!

We drove by this sign twice today. Did you know that there are 111 km/69 miles in one degree of latitude? I live 111 km south and several kilometres east of this sign.

(I peed on the sign, by the way)

This is Jenpeg Hydro-electricity Generating Station. The turbine is under the road, which is to say that we got to drive over the dam! Damn!

The water goes through from right to left. This is what the left side looks like.

This is what I look like sleeping while mama takes pictures of the dam for me.
It's good to have someone with opposable digits in your inner-circle.

Oh! Today I got stuff! I earned my rabies tag:
Only $94.78 and worth every penny!

AND my mama bought me a 6.5 kg box of MILKBONES!

YUM YUM YUM!
For you non-metric folks that's just over 14 lbs.

My mom bought me a new bed. Ladybug and Mew keep stealing my beds. We were home all of ten minutes and look what happened:
Ladybug! Paws off!

It's good to go places, but it's even better to come home.

I love being home!
This is Sunny, signing off. May the cats in your dreams want to play, and may they let you win sometimes.

xox, Sunny

Friends!

My mom has already posted this picture of me and my friend, Casey. She came over this afternoon for a play date. We played A LOT. I shared my dentabones and I even showed her the chickens in the backyard. She wants some to take home, but I told her no -- there's no chicken fence at her house.

She's a cute little thing, isn't she?  She's part Shih Tzu and part miniature poodle. In other words she's a shitpoo! ha ha ha ha ha!

Tomorrow morning we are going to take some pictures of me and my chickens. Mom said I could use them for my blog.

Today we helped out our new neighbours, two Golden Retrievers and an RCMP. The Goldens are big and well mannered and very, very pretty/handsome (I haven't gotten within sniffing distance yet!).

Later! It's time for me to sleep! Sweet dreams!

I have had a long and adventuresome summer

Hi! My name is Sunny. This summer I travelled by airplane from Manitoba to Nova Scotia and I had a lot of adventures along the way.

When we first got to Winnipeg, I couldn't believe my eyes! I was in the backseat of an SUV and there was SO much traffic! I didn't know which way to look! Vehicles were whizzing by on both sides!

The hotel we stayed at had glass doors. I could see my reflection, but I didn't bark at myself. I'm practically a grown-up dog now.

I also got to ride in an elevator. That was freaky. I had to do it a few times before I got used to it.

At my grandma's house there was some awesome smells. I loved to sit on the front step and smell the roses.

Those roses smelled SO good!

I liked to go to the shore and bark at the seagulls and pigeons, but I DID NOT LIKE TO SWIM IN THE OCEAN!

The waves were too freaky. I was scared of them. My mom didn't make me go in. We just played on the beach.

I got a fancy haircut. They gave me a bandana that matched my leash.

I love my grandma. She calls me her Grand-dog.

Mom and I got to sleep in her carving shop in the backyard. Every morning we'd come inside and I'd go see my grandmama and she'd give me a great doggie massage. She's magic. I love her.

I ran a lot of laps when we went visiting. Here I am playing with a boy. We ran and ran until I needed a nap. It was fun.

The best part of Nova Scotia? The ICE CREAM. I think there's an ice cream shop every 5 km. My mom's brother, my uncle John, LOVES ice cream. So do I!

This is me swimming with my life-jacket on. I can swim, don't get me wrong... but I DO NOT like it when my feet can't touch. Mom got me the life-jacket in the hope that she and I could go swimming together, but I just don't like it the way she does.

My next great adventure is that mom is getting me a yard! Starting in about 2 weeks we are going to build a fence and then I'll have a great big yard to run around in! I can't wait!

Oh... and I have to tell you something... we have these things... these birds living in our backyard. They have a fence. They make me very excited. Birds! I love birds!

CHICKENS ARE AWESOME.
More to come later.
